Bungee into a new life !!

March 29th, 2009 at 06:53 pm

I'm in one of those hellishly expensive places called Internet Cafes... have no choice tho as my home Internet is cancelled and I am waiting for the Internet to be connected in my new apartment.

Anyways....in this News Bulletin

1. Bungee Jump

Drove down to the bungee place. Looked at a girl do it before me... i.e fall off the edge screaming !! Climbed the tower in a relatively calm state of mind. When I got to the edge of the platform, after been harnassed up, I freaked out. I looked down and that was it. There was no way I was going to do it. Told the instructor twice I can't do it. He was a fantastic guy and told me I could. Looking out off that platform just terrified me... with the trees WAY down below me. Anyways I told him I'm gonna close me eyes and count down from 10. He said 10 isn't allowed. They only do 5. So I close my eyes and 2 seconds later just leant forward...... and next thing I know...... I'm off !!!

Terrifying upsidedownside feeling.... swinging and bungeeing wildly..... HOPING... those leg straps will hold tight !!!! being lowered down onto a net and feeling my back hit the net and saying "Thank God !!"

2. Today I got the keys to my apartment. A new chapter in my life has opened. In the process of moving at the moment - hence no Internet :0(. It will all come together soon tho !!

Anyhow... am a big concerned about my mother... once or twice today I caught her looking a bit teary-eyed and I don't want to upset her by her watching me moving all my stuff out..... I'm not moving to another country... just moving to an apartment in my home town....

still, nobody likes to make their mother upset... any suggestions as to how to make as small an impact on her as possible ??

Gotta go... as I'm probably being charged by the SECOND !! lol

Make a lunch date with her this weekend.

So i was going to ask you why in the world did you ever want to bungee jump, but then i read the quote by Thurman above and i guess that answers my question.

I remember being more adventurous in my 20s and more willing to try new things. Now i'm more worried about avoiding a car accident or how my 401(k)s doing. Oh well.

As you get older, people tend to get a much better sense of their own mortality, and act accordingly. I'm glad you were able to bungee jump, though.

She will be fine...just keep in touch and allow your relationship with her to take on a new flavor. Congrats on the bungee jump...not a goal Ive ever felt inclined to experience...but good for you. and welcome to the blogs...

Oh, you did the bungee jump already? Great!! Smile
Not much you can do about your mother getting teary eyed. Sorry, they just do that. She'll be ok! DH moved 1000 miles away 10 years ago and his mother still hasn't stopped... At least you'll be in the same town!

Congrats on your bungee jump! I did it when I was 18 and it was scary as heek!....Also I liked yout quote so much I googled it and found this out....If you search for the name “Harold Thurman Whitman” on Google you will find about 900 references to his quote:

“Do not ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Yet try as you might, you will not find any historical information about this great man. That is because he doesn’t exist. This quote has been copied over and over on many websites, even to quotation websites! The sheer number of citations now obscures the fact that the quote is properly attributed to Howard Thurman.

It shows how easy it is to assume that something is correct simply because of it’s prevalence in a search result

That second quote reminds me of kennedys wute: ask not what your country can do....etc. I wonder which came first?

Congratulations on your new apartment. It is always exciting to move out on your own. (and i am a bit jealous cause i have 6 more months until i can by my own place.)

call her often, ask her opinion on things, give here flowers or a plant to say thinks for being there for me...

Thanks for the advice folks !!

I'm gonna get a set of keys cut for my mother so she can call in whenever she wants or if she is down town and it starts pouring rain etc etc.

I'll be in regular contact anyway... so I'm sure all will be fine.... I've "left home" for variuos periods before so its not a new thing.... but I think there's just a realisation that this is very probably the last time...

My younger brother is planning to move out too... so I'm worried she might find the nest emptying out too quickly....

    Good point oceansluver78 !!

I guess there is some mixing up involving the American poet Walt Whitman....
